Which Garden do you pick?

The amazing thing about the great outdoors, when it comes to photography, is the endless possibilities that are presented before the person behind the camera. Different lighting sources (sunlight, shadow, cloud, flash) and the ever-changing backdrop (or should I say background). And on top of that, I don't know anyone who would rather stay indoors when beautiful weather is calling your name.
The cherry on top has got to be the natural look your subject seems to look outdoors. Coincidence? I don't think so, I mean there's a reason why they call it 'natural' look... because it is cones from the fresh outside. I so I believe, in my vast knowledge as a photographer (personal joke) the only essentials you need to create stunning photos during anytime of the day are: 5 in 1 reflector, a flash mounted on your camera and a willing pair of hands. That's it. You can circumvent around harsh midday sunlight with your reflector acting as a diffuser and using the flash unit to create depth in your portrait.
So now te questions is not so much which scenery or garden to pick from but rather how much time do I have in taking breathtaking pictures outside.
Happy shooting!

Sales Flyer

I decided to create a sales flyer for the business realising that my passion for portrait child and family photography will not bring in the Rands by itself. I know… I know…. What was I thinking! I guess you get caught up in the art and forget the business side of things. As they say “Most businesses fail in the first year of operation”. I know that too well and so I’ve made a conscious decision to invest in marketing and advertising for the business. Let’s hope this is not one those money wormhole exercises…

Technical Flash Applets From Stanford University Make Photography Learning Fun

Technical Flash Applets From Stanford University Make Photography Learning Fun:
At first I was standoffish when I found the link to Stanford’s applets. As much as I love photography, there was a lot of technical concepts listed that often had little to offer for the hobby photographer for whom I regularly teach.
DPS-Phase
But then I started playing with the applets and now love the information, intending to send more students that way. And that is why I bring the site to your attention as it may be of interest to you. Keep in mind that the applets are part of the larger Stanford photography course, which is available online. The whole course covers the technical side of photography as well a number of weekly assignments (originally assigned when the course was running in Spring of 2011).
If you are curious about Variables that affect exposure, Depth of Field, Gamma correction, Color matching, Autofocus using phase detection and more, take some time to read through the site. It is a wealth of knowledge you might find interesting and enlightening.
